Salsa Anyone?

I really love any type of salsa. I like mine pretty spicy, but my family does not. So when I came across this pin on pinterest, I knew I had to try it. The recipe came from here. I HIGHLY recommend this if you like salsa. It has a good level of spice to it, but is still mild for others. The recipe gives you a few different options, but this is what Brad and I did....

  • A produce bag full of roma tomatoes
  • 15 serrano peppers
  • 2 yellow onions
  • 8 cloves of garlic
  • 2 TBSP salt
  • 2 bunches of cilantro (I like a lot of cilantro in my salsa)
This makes a very large portion fyi

1. Halve the tomatoes and onions and place them on a baking sheet. Add the peppers and garlic also.

2. Bake the ingredients at 375 until the onions start falling apart and the tomatoes are starting to look soft.

3. Let it all cool very well! We made this twice and the second time we were in a hurry to eat it and forgot to let it cool. It didn't taste very well at first until the whole thing cooled down.

4. Put all the ingredients in a food processor or a blender. We used a blender, and we took the seeds out of the peppers.

I don't have an after picture probably because we started eating it right away & it didn't last too long. :)

Pinterest Challenge

So I stumbled across the Pinterest challenge from Sherry over at Young House Love.

Since I was new to blogging and pinterest, I wasn't quite ready to take on a challenge. Today was the deadline to have your challenge piece complete. I was looking around at all the things people made & came across a headband made out of t-shirts from this blogger who took on the challenge. I was intrigued and thought I could do that. Well I sure did! It wasn't very difficult at all although the final product was a bit bulkier than I would have liked. Here is a step by step when I remembered to take a picture....

1. Take 6 strips of t-shirts & sew three of them together so you have 2 long strips of 3 together

I first only used 2 strips but realized it wasn't long enough.

2. Stretch the t-shirt strips so they curl up

Bubba was helping me out or trying to get me to play ball :)

3. Split the long strips up into thirds

4. Then fold those in half

5. So here is where I forgot to take pictures.... I followed these instructions from another blogger until I ended up with this!

This was when I realized two strips was short

With three strips. Much better!

6. Then I sewed all the strips together, added another piece of fabric by tying it together, then tying the two ends together by a connecting piece. The other blogs had a nice fancy way of securing it, but I was getting frustrated with the sewing machine & improvised. Here is the final result!

I tried to get some good pictures of how it looked on my head and that resulted in my own little photo shoot.

I mainly got frustrated with the sewing machine because back in May I was making Brad's graduation present which is a t-shirt quilt of all his old Ohio State shirts since he got his bachelors and masters degree from there. (Also because he is a little obsessed with OSU) I stressed over this blanket. It took up my ENTIRE living room floor-with all the furniture moved. It will no doubt fit a king size bed once it is complete. I tried to complete it before his graduation but I didn't. I ended up working on it for literally 3 days straight and had a break down the day before graduation because the sewing machine was not my best friend and decided to make a lot of the borders crooked.

Sorry for that long explanation, but as I was getting frustrated with the sewing machine & t-shirt strips that were from Brad's old t-shirts I thought back to this blanket below that still isn't finished.

It has been sitting in the dining room since May (it's August) and I haven't touched it yet. Sorry Bradley! I'm going to try and fix it soon-hopefully before school starts!

Wish me luck!!!!

Haircut results

Yesterday I went to get my hair cut. I was VERY nervous. I knew they would do a really good job, but I wasn't sure if I was making the right decision for me. I looked into doing Locks of Love, but unfortunately I didn't have enough hair. You have to send in a minimum of 10 inches, and if I cut 10 inches off it would have been above my shoulders. I just wasn't very comfortable with that. Luckily, the stylist that was available was the one who cut my hair last time. When I was there last, I told her I was thinking about going short before school started. Well, I decided to do it sooner rather than later. On vacation, my hair was a huge hassle. It was too hot and took so much time to get ready so that helped me make the decision so fast.

The stylist was so great. She cut probably about 8 inches off and added a few shorter layers to the ones I already had. I was a little unsure of it yesterday since I straightened my hair in the morning. It was very stringy. After washing it and styling it myself this morning, I LOVE it. It is really different for me. It looks and feels healthier, and it looks even darker to what my natural color is because the longer layers were a lot lighter from the sun. I realize this might not even be that big of a change to other people, even my dad didn't notice haha, but it was a big change for me that I'm happy I made!

Here is the result!

I was taking pictures with Bubba because I don't like taking pictures of just myself, but he decided he was tired and was done with picture taking as you can see....

So to get a good picture of my hair, I decided to suck it up and take one by myself....

I'm not sure why it looks so light in the picture, probably from the lamp so below is the actual color it looks now.

Overall, I'm very happy with it! Now hopefully I can just keep up with the styling when schools starts which is in 25 DAYS. WOW summer went really fast. Only a few more weeks until I'm back in the classroom living at school!

pssst... If you haven't joined pinterest yet, get on it! It is so great :)

Obsession

I have a new found obsession. A few hours ago I discovered Pinterest from this blogger. I love being creative, and this website has brought back so many ideas that I have. Instead of trying to remember things I want to do, or cut them out of a magazine to save, I can do it all electronically! Pinterest basically lets you "pin" things on your "boards" from ANY website. These could be anything from fashion, home decorating, DIY, photography, travel, cooking etc. Seriously haven't left the website in 3 hours.... it's bad. I highly recommend you join, and follow me :) You can follow me  here and join here I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
