Theory

So as you may or may not know, I am in grad school right now while teaching full time. So far, most of my classes have been very enjoyable except for one I took over the summer which was the only class I did not get an A in. This semester, on top of driving an HOUR to class right after school on Monday, the class is about the theory of human development.

Interesting? Eh, No thanks. I think I would rather take a Calculus test & I hate Calculus.

Maybe it will get a little better in a few weeks seeing as this was our 2nd class, but I'm just not feeling it. My program is Elementary Mathematics Education so why in the world do I need to take a class about theory? I get it I need to know the basics which I do & learned about in undergrad but seriously a page full of theorists? WHYYYYY. We have our first "short quiz" next week which is supposed to take an hour. I'm really not liking this semester already, but the upside? Getting to be back in McGuffey Hall again.

Someone just give me some math already please & thank you.

I will leave you with a problem I got from another math teacher last week. Now here is what I need. Logic problems. Yes, I was the nerd doing this problem between Bradley's Friday night basketball games. Were some of his players starring at me awkwardly wondering why I was doing math on a Friday night? Yes. Did I care? Nope. I love logic.

I believe it came from the Readers Digest, but I'm not sure. Let's see who can figure it out :) It took me about two hours, but that was with many interruptions.

Ol' Santa's pack held thirty toys
Made by his elfin crew; And though none made the same amount,
Each elf made more than two. The elf named Cher made one more toy Than the elf who dressed in reds, But Cher made one less Christmas toy Than the elf who made the sleds. Spry Johnny Elf made racing cars. Five toys were made by Jane. The elf who dressed in yellow suits Made each and every train. The elf who always dressed in green Made one-third as many as Sue. Cute Marcia Elf was dressed in orange, And one elf dressed in blue. The elf who made the spinning tops Made the most toys of them all. Another perky, smiling elf Made each and every ball. Ole Santa's pack held 30 gifts All tagged for girls and boys, From the clues you've been given, Now guess who made what toys!

Moose

Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my first dog. After almost 14 years, Moose just couldn't handle anything anymore. I'll spare you all the details, but he was just old & lived a wonderful long life for a HUGE black lab. Thinking back on my time with him, I still remember coming home one day from school and telling my parents my friend's dog had puppies! At the time, I thought they were free so my mom called my friend's mom without us knowing.

One day, we were out with my mom and she pulls up to this house with some story about dropping off some paper for this guy my dad used to work with. Not fooling me... I was convinced she was making a mistake and was so embarrassed because I KNEW it was my friend's house. Anyway, we argued with my mom about going to the door because my brother and I didn't want to look stupid in front of these people. My mom went up there without us and later was telling my friend's mom what had happened. Little did we know that we were there to pick out a puppy. So my friend's mom came out and asked us if we wanted to play with the puppies while my mom was dropping stuff off. Sure a 10 year old and a 7 year old wanted to play with puppies whenever we got the chance!

As we were playing with them outside, my mom just says ok so which one are we taking home? We were SHOCKED. When I originally asked my mom about getting a puppy from them, she said she would consider it, but we never talked about it again. Whenever I would bring it up she would quickly change the subject. This was a great surprise! The puppies were about 6 weeks old and were ready to be taken home. (I know you are supposed to wait longer, but my friend's family was starting to sell them because they had their shots & were doing well) My mom told us that we had to pick a male dog, and it had to be black. Orders from Dad (who had to work at that time) for protection reasons :) Out of I think 9 puppies, four of them were black and five were yellow lab. I ended up picking our dog. I remember him being very playful and loving attention.

After we got home, we all sat in the living room trying to figure out what to name him. Our top choices were Moose, Shadow (after his dad), or Bear. We ended up choosing Moose, and it fit him very well. Soon Moose became a large part of our family, and I couldn't remember what life was like without him.

The time has come that I unfortunately have to live life without him. He was in a lot of pain, and I know he is in a better place now. This is the first time I've had to say goodbye to a pet so it was really rough on me. I've been sobbing for four days. I can't help it. I am such a baby that I've been crying at the drop of a hat. (Some of this is due to other things that have been weighing on me that I'm not ready to discuss) Saying goodbye was one of the hardest things I've done. He's been in my life since I was 10. It's almost 14 years. I will miss him so much.

I actually made it through this whole post without crying. I'm moving forward, but I will never forget my Moosie baby. I leave you with some pictures from the later years of his life.

Rest In Peace Moose 3-10-98  to  1-18-12

(Here come the tears)
